France July 2010 | Day 1 | Blois, Château de Chambord, Centrale nucléaire de Saint-Laurent, Les banquettes rouges

4 days in France Frankfurt->Paris->Blois->Paris->Frankfurt

Early last year Guillaume and Claire moved to Blois, France while I moved to Frankfurt, Germany. Met Sylvain at Crytek who also hails from Blois. It was decided that the next time he goes back to Blois to meet his girl, I would be tag along and spent the weekend with Guillaume and Claire.

heading to the central station to catch a train to paris

took the TGV to paris

after a trip in the metro and some sushi

took another train to Blois

next morning…

later in the day we headed to Château de Chambord

on the way to Château de Chambord i noticed a nuclear power plan….

we decided to have a closer look

back to Blois and walked around some more

we gained an hour

Daylight saving time…which was need after the insane night…which left ville and riikka on the couch

scans form the first roll shot with the yashica electro 35…its not as easy as i would have liked it to be. The focus ring is positioned badly…which means i cannot grip the camera properly when i turn the focus ring…the same problem i have with the shutter ring on the OM. But got some interesting frames nevertheless

she is closing shop…next visit will be the last one…sigh…her clients include one of the prime minister of norway

Was invited to have Raclette with friends…

Raclette is also a dish indigenous to parts of Switzerland, Wallonia and France. The Raclette cheese round is heated, either in front of a fire or by a special machine, then scraped onto diners’ plates; the term raclette derives from the French racler, meaning “to scrape”. Day 3 | Day 2 | Day 1

Last of the rolls…Pan F Plus 50. Took the om + 28/2.8 to the zoo. As the cost of film development has reached to a point of stupidity i decided to just get them developed and scan them myself. Borrowed the CanonScan FS 4000 US from Ulf and spent less time than i expected to scan 3 rolls of film. Not bad at all.

Had quite a chat with the lab guy at RedLab…about the ridiculous price of film dev and he went on how…things are expensive in Norway…on and on. And in the end he gave me a roll of discontinued Agfa APX 100…thats what i needed…more film.

The point of the trip was to sketch…as we all failed at that on day 2…we decided to go back. Leave after lunch, stop at Grimstad and Risør on the way home.

for the trip i carried a 5d + 28/1.8 and a om1 + 28/2.8. Not the best lenses when you go to the zoo…especially when you see everyone else with their mega zoom lenses. But it was nice to not bother with multiple lenses.

got up at 8

there was three beds(and a fourth hidden on)…all for me

breakfast at 9

dyreparken (zoo) at 10…i dont remember the last time i was at a zoo…this ostrich tried to bite our shoes

the lighting was fantastic

saw some lions…surprising how much smaller they are compared to tigers

ahead was the gibbon and orangutan area

flamingos…i had no idea how beautiful they were

these are Golden Lion Tamarin

and my friend the Tarantula…i am utterly scared of spiders

some lemurs

as it would happen…it rained

had some more fantastic ~~food~~

and saw some two humped camels

pony…strange animals…i love horses…not so sure about these

this was part of the indoor section where the animals are free and you can walk amongst them

this is a Cottontop Tamarin…i was happy about the 28mm as it meant i had to get real close

it was closing time and the flamingos moved indoors

we went to checkout…the Meerkat

5 pm and time to leave…

took a walk around town…

and into a pub for some drinks

i had a Irish coffee

while guillaume sketched me

i liked it…he hated it…something about the perspective being wrong…the sketch was later torn…glad i took a photo

Plan was to goto the Dyreparken (zoo) in Kristansand and sketch. As I have zero skillz at sketching I took photos. The zoo was pretty good…worth a visit.

Day one…we hired a car and Guillaume was the driver…I offered to drive but no one trusted my driving skillz.

after being stuck in a traffic jam all the way to Drammen…we stopped to eat ~~food~~

nearly there…after 5 hours

found a new bar and had some local beer

storøya and halden

another weekend another beach(s)

We first went to this beach at storøya, which was supposed to be awesome. The only thing i saw, was the awesome number of people(and kids) there. As we were there we took a dip in the water anyways…that done we decided to head to the beach at halden brygge. Nice beach…ok not a sandy beach but less people(and kids).

I dont know how to swim…yes there are people like me. Luckily i have friend who insist i learn how to swim…and thats what i did…not swimming…a bit of floating. It reminds me learning how to cycle. All good.

So i have been here for three years now…and finally i went for a swim. This shows it all depends on the company you keep.

This will probably be the last post before i head to India for vacation.

goto halden and we were happy…

helene bought a 500d and a sigma 70-300…i threw up a bit when i saw the BIG lens…and decided to try it @ 300

the french did not let me down…they made tasty food…not sure if i like the 50/1.8…the 28/2.8 renders better
