DM-Shank | done in 24 hrs!!!

I am level designer or mapper…sadly the last personal map i made was in 2006…

It was about time i made a new one…and i must say…its still as much fun, as it was back in the Quake3 days…

I set myself a goal…to finish the map in 1 day, ie.24 hours.

So after spending 12 hours each on sat and sun…here it is.

Update…got this mail from dad…haha…

Long time no mail from you. Thought you must be busy on someting. Then I saw your map. Nice one. I remember your Q3 days. Late nights.

what happened was…

i used to be a programmer…but i liked to make levels more than i liked to programm…so everyday i would come home from work and work on my maps till 1am…before going back to sleep…

had to do this as i did not have internet back in those days…and i was learning to make maps for Quake3…

then when i finally got an internet connection…Quake3World happened…good old days…mapping, trickjumping…

hopefully if everything works out…it will be like the good old days…

…its a pleasant 15 degrees here is in oslo…nice and sunny…

had dan and son been here…we would probably be doing some barbecue…and be drinking wine…sadly there are not here…

so here i am at work…

speaking of work…now that the game i am working on, “Age of Conan” is close to being released…i got to have a look the manual…and finally got to see my name in the credits…

its taken me 4.4 years to get here…a published game…

i am a game developer…sadly there are more artist and coder for whom this is just a 9-5 job…people who did not have to struggle…people who take all this for granted…

ah well…i am not in a mood to rant…fuck it…

anyways…4 jobs…4.4 years…moving away from home…moving away from friends…moving away from country…

is it worth it?

totally…

painful but worth it…

i remember those days clearly when i spoke to couple of guys at my first job…that i wanted to leave programming and get into game dev…some thought i was mad…some said go for it…

i did not have a job for couple of months…

i wonder what my family thought…especially my dad…see dad…i made it…

its all about how much you are willing to sacrifice…how much you want it…

its not about what you can do…its about what you want to do…

its about doing what you love and loving what you do

and now, a new beginning…back to the drawing board…a clean slate…

…had a nice debate about gear…how you dont need good gear to take good images…while i agree that you can take images with average gear…the images will be average…try to make this image with a slow zoom…its not about being expensive…get a 50/1.8…75$!!! its a brilliant lens…but i have a 1.4…why…because i can make a frame like this with a 1.4…and all the frames in this post…i regret not buying a 5D…

so people…either get a nice compact…like son did…and she take amazing images with it…or get a good DSLR…spend that extra $$ and it will be worth it…

Porta 400 VC

…is beautiful…

i was supposed to buy superia 800 but it was out of stock and i got this just to test out the om2…and i am glad i bought it…

lets see

the weather is crap…its sunny for an hour in the morning and then the sky turns to grey and rains…not cool…

i am at peace…

i dont have a computer at home anymore…the LCD i was using had to go back to someone…and i dont intend to buy a new one…so this will be interesting…

looks like nothing really is happening…not good

been having a lot of sushi lately…i dont like fish…but sushi is fine…

had to get done with the roll of porta so on saturday went for a walk…bad decision…it was raining and snowing at the same time…crap

froze my fingers in a few minutes…but managed to get few good frames and dropped the roll at the lab…

we had dinner at this place…pakistani place with a iraqi waiter…only in Oslo…

then…the usual…no i dont like beer

we were at her house…no i dont remember her name…but i do remember that she said she was tired and hence would not bother to speak in english…i appreciate it…feel completely welcome…but…as the beer flowed…the more they spoke english and it was fun towards the end…sadly i had to goto work during the weekend…so had to cut the party short and head home…life
